Civil Time

  • Hybris Mechanica temps civil
The back of the watch indicates civil time in the most accurate positive manner, thanks to an ultra-light titanium carriage and a large balance-wheel. Civil time corresponds to the mean solar time. It asserted itself from the 14th century onwards thanks to horology, since it served to rationalise natural (solar) time by eliminating the daily irregularities (days and years of variable lengths) and by correcting them at regular intervals (by leap years and century leap years). Its duration is 24 hours and corresponds to the mean duration of each of earth’s rotations around the sun during a civil year, meaning 365 or 366 days.
