Skeletonising

Skeletonised movements are very exclusive and produced in very limited editions. The slightest gesture of the engraver is guided by skill, experience and imagination, to the nearest hundredth of a millimetre. To preserve the shape of the components, he wedges them in a wax bed and works on them one by one. Firstly with a fine line, he outlines the areas to be engraved. Then he begins the chiselling, with a broader stroke so as not to carve too deep and risk going through the metal of the part. The components are then entrusted to the hands of the watchmakers for final assembly. Once mounted, the movement has the appearance of a luxurious openwork embroidery of utmost delicacy, adorned with rubies and blued screws.
