An exceptional Charity Polo match with star players

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso invented in 1931 is the one and only truly polo watch in the world. Today the Reverso is seen on the wrists of star polo players, all Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassadors, among them are Eduardo Novillo Astrada, Lia Salvo and Clare Milford Haven. The unquestioned world capital of this sport is Argentina, which has more than 300 polo clubs, the oldest and most renowned being the Hurlingham Club. These fields have hosted all the great polo players in history: The Prince of Wales, Edward VIII, the Duke of Windsor, Prince Phillip and Prince Charles have all played here, as did the maharajah of Jaipur and many others. It is on the grounds of Hurlingham Polo Club that this Monday, November 29th 2010, Jaeger-LeCoultre held a special charity polo match with star players. For every goal scored during the match, Jaeger-LeCoultre donated the funds to the Christian Family Polo Movement, an organization supporting the schools for children coming from low-income families in Greater Buenos Aires. Two teams of four players each, the White against the Black, competed on the field of Hurlingham Club. After each goal, the teams, watched by two referees on horseback and a third referee outside the field, changed sides as per polo rules. The White team included: Clare Milford Haven, Eduardo Novillo Astrada and his brothers – Alejandro and Ignacio Novillo Astrada. In the Black team were Lia Salvo, Gabriel Iglesias, Juan Carlos Harriet and Will Johnston. Spectators watched the game admiring the exceptional performance of world’s polo elite and keeping a close eye on their horses in full gallop. The game of Polo, played at a very high speed, requires excellent riding skills and team spirit from the players. The polo ponies demonstrated great endurance and the ability to turn sharply, keep cool in the thick of the action, and balance. According to Eduardo Novillo Astrada, “the horse is the most incredible animal that exists and polo ponies are capable of doing practically anything we ask them to”. The intense match resulted in the score of 7:8, with the White team gaining the victory over the Black. Jérome Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre, congratulated the players and announced that as a result of the competition, the amount of 10,000 US dollars is donated by Jaeger-LeCoultre to the Christian Family Polo Movement.
