What is a maintenance service?

We also recommend that you check the water-resistance of your watch once every two years, or prior to any period during which it will be subjected to prolonged and/or regular immersions, at one of our Service Centres or boutiques, or at your authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer.

Indeed, water-resistance is not a permanent condition.  The seals that ensure the water-resistance may dry up because of the different changes of temperature to which the watch is exposed. Furthermore, it is also necessary for crowns, push-pieces and correctors to be replaced once every 2 years, given that these components also provide water-resistance.   

Every time your watch undergoes a battery change, maintenance service or complete service, and in fact each time the case is opened, it is vital that the watch also undergo a water-resistance check.

It is important not to pull out the crown to change the date or time while in the water, since there is a risk that the water may penetrate the case. For watches with a screw-down crown, please check that it is perfectly screwed down before going into the water. After swimming in the sea or in chlorinated water (as found in swimming pools), it is recommended that you rinse your watch in fresh water and then dry it using a non-abrasive cloth.

In order to verify the water-resistance of your timepiece, we shall undertake a maintenance service, which includes the following stages:

- Complete disassembly of the case
- Case and strap: cleaning with ultrasound and protection of the case, changing of the seals, attachment or gluing of the crystal and water resistance test
- Changing of the battery, if required
- Checking the movement settings
- Casing up the movement
- Water-resistance test on the whole watch
- Final verification of operation and aesthetics

During a maintenance service, no intervention is carried out on the movement, except for an adjustment of the settings. 

Polishing is in addition to the maintenance service and will only be undertaken if a maintenance service is accepted, as is also the case for the replacement of crowns, push-pieces and correctors.  

We advise you to entrust your timepiece either to an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer or to a Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique or authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre Service Centre so that they can proceed to undertake a maintenance service.
