Membrane-Based Mechanical Depth Gauge

The chamber on the side of the case houses a blackened steel membrane that expands and contracts according to the water pressure exerted on its blackened metal head.

Its movements are transmitted to the indicator via an ingenious transmission system, composed of a cogwheel, two pinions and a rack - partly visible through the heart of the dial.

The transmission elements are specifically shaped to enable a logarithmic-scale display from 0 to 80 metres. The reliability of the depth gauge is ensured, as no water enters the membrane itself.

Adding to the 'total experience', the function has been designed in such a way that it can be demonstrated even out of water. By simply applying fingertip pressure to the head of the depth gauge, the hand will move to simulate different depth levels depending on the intensity of the pressure applied.

A Dial Structure highlighting its Technical Nature

Its dial is that of an authentic sports watch with professional ambitions. 6 juxtaposing levels incorporate a wide range of information. The dual time zone, the 24-city selection disc, the hour display with split-level date display, the operating indicator with its luminescent cross-through bar, and the depth scale on the outer dial ring. The latter features contrasting colours to differentiate each 20-metre section and thus provides intuitive and optimal depth-gauge read-off. The stamped and luminescent numerals and hour-markers feature the unmistakable Master Compressor style.

A Movement with a Legendary Name and History: Geographic

At the heart of the revolutionary case of the Master Compressor Diving Pro Geographic lies a brand-new movement: Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 979. It carries the signature feature of Geographic movements: a multiple time-zone indication enabling one to select a city and to display the time there directly. It is also the first to enrich this function with fast adjustment of the main time zone, which is extremely useful when travelling. The local time hand can be moved forward or backward in one-hour increments, while simultaneously driving the date. The minutes continue to operate, thereby maintaining the watch's accurate setting.

Incorporating all the characteristics of state-of-the-art automatic movements combining precision, accuracy and reliability, Calibre 979 joins the exceptional collection of more than 1,000 Jaeger-LeCoultre mechanical calibres.
