Hotly disputed matches at the 9th Jaeger-LeCoultre Open de France Polo Cup.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Open de France Polo Cup took place from Saturday, September 5th to Sunday, September 20th, 2009 on the grounds of the Chantilly Polo Club; it is one of the four major European tournaments. This 9th edition attracted ten of the best international teams with a 14 to 16-goal handicap.
The ten teams all competed at a high level and with a few exceptions, the final scores of all the major matches were very close, which was the case with last Sunday’s final between the “Sainte-Mesme” and “In The Wings Jaeger-LeCoultre” teams.
Until the final moments, the two teams’ scores were tied, but with a few seconds left in the match, Gonzalo von Wernich scored a goal on a penalty. As a result, “Sainte-Mesme” was able to enjoy a win in its inaugural participation in the Jaeger-LeCoultre Open de France Polo Cup.
The 9th Annual Jaeger LeCoultre Open de France Polo Cup was a resounding success: almost 3,000 spectators came to watch the final. It was standing room only on the sidelines of the field, recalling the kind of popularity polo enjoys in England.
By renewing its partnership, Jaeger-LeCoultre has provided a new impetus for this magnificent tournament. This trend is set to be repeated next year, continuing the historical ties between the watchmaking Manufacture and the game of polo.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Open de France Polo Cup took place on the prestigious grounds of the Chantilly estate in Apremont (France).
