OVERVIEW
UNIQUENESS: LA VALLÉE DES MERVEILLES™
LA VALLÉE DES MERVEILLES™
THE SPIRIT OF LA VALLÉE DES MERVEILLES™
From the serene heart of the Vallée de Joux, La Grande Maison draws inspiration from nature's ever-renewed spectacle. With La Vallée des Merveilles™, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils exclusive series of limited-edition timepieces, each a tribute to the world's most magnificent natural sceneries. Our craftsmen transform this intrinsic beauty into miniature works of art, elevated by our Métiers Rares™.
REALITY MEETS IMAGINATION
On islands formed by still-active volcanoes, Hawaii's hidden valleys shelter lush tropical forests. These areas are home to exotic birds that feed on the nectar of brightly coloured flowers. The timepiece is an artistic interpretation of Hawaii’s Kauai Island, shaped by the creativity of our designers, suspended between reality and imagination.
DESIGN
SYMBIOSIS OF NATURAL SCENERIES
The Reverso One, with its rectangular reversible case, refined Art Deco brackets and the use of precious materials, offers a canvas for artistic expression. Its luminous mother-of-pearl dial gracefully captures the light, creating a play of reflections, while its crown, delicately adorned with a diamond, imparts a signature sparkle.
AN INVITATION TO SWIVEL
Complementing the first glance, both the diamond setting and the intricate art design on the timepiece elegantly extend around the curved sides of the case, flowing uninterruptedly from the bezel to the reverse side. This seamless progression provides a glimpse of the artistry, gently drawing the eye to trace the design and fully unveil the magnificent scene as the case is reversed.
NATURE COLOURS AND VIVACITY
Once the case is reversed, the timepiece presents a delicate Akialoa poised gracefully above a vibrant red hibiscus flower. The intricate depiction of the Akialoa, the bloom, and the lush tropical foliage beautifully captures nature’s splendour, rendered in brilliant tones of red, blue, and green. These hues are subtly graduated, creating a captivating three-dimensional effect and an impression of dynamic motion. A radiant golden accent further highlights the hibiscus flower's pistil.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
MÉTIERS RARES™ ART EXPRESSION
Limited to an exclusive edition of just 20, each timepiece embodies a seamless blend of horological precision and the exquisite artistry of High Jewellery, meticulously brought to life by our Métiers Rares™ atelier. The vibrant red hibiscus blossom, intricate foliage, and graceful Akialoa are rendered with remarkable fidelity through the Grand Feu champlevé enamelling technique, creating a rich palette of brilliant colours. The case is further embellished with both grain-setting and snow-setting, standing as a testament to unparalleled craftsmanship.
THE INTRICACY OF PAILLONNAGE
The first craft that expresses itself on the piece is the paillonné enamel. This highly specialised technique involves the meticulous cutting of a 24K gold leaf (999/1000) fragment, precisely tailored to the design's dimensions. This delicate fragment is then carefully placed onto the gold base and sealed beneath multiple layers of translucent enamel, which creates a captivating depth and luminosity, bringing the motif vividly to life.
THE CHALLENGE OF ENAMEL
The second craft to reveal its subtle mastery on the piece is Grand Feu champlevé enamel. The hollows within the artistic scene are carefully filled with consecutive, thin layers of enamel. Each of these layers is then fired at up to 800°C to fuse and gradually reveal its designated colour. The vibrant red of the hibiscus flower is one of the most challenging colours to achieve in enamelling.
THE DUAL ARTISTRY
The final craft, gem-setting, elevates the timepiece to unparalleled brilliance. A gem-setter dedicates 160 hours to meticulously select and precisely position 1029 diamonds on the 18K pink gold (750/1000) case and bracelet, employing grain and snow-setting techniques. The latter, a particularly complex technique, involves meticulously creating holes and securing diamonds of 9 distinct sizes extremely close with tiny metal beads. The gem-setter personally selects and determines the precise placement of each individual stone, making each piece kind of unique.
CALIBRE
IN-HOUSE CALIBRE 846
Complementing the artistry of the Métiers Rares™, the timepiece is brought to life by the Manufacture's in-house Calibre 846. This manually wound movement, assembled from 93 individual components, ensures a 50-hour power reserve and is shaped to perfectly integrate within the Reverso One case.
