70 HOURS OF MINITATURE PAINTING ENAMELLING

The first of many challenges in decorating the Reverso case-back was to reproduce Claude Monet’s original work onto a surface of 2 cm2. The enameller also had to create an illusion of the impasto and recreate the dreamlike quality of the originals, with their fleeting effects of light and atmosphere.

17 HOURS FOR THE GUILLOCHÉ ENAMELLED DIAL

The wavy hand-guilloché pattern on the dial – which took eight hours of meticulous work to create – repeats the reflections on the water’s surface depicted in Monet’s painting. The visual effect of the waves is amplified by layers of translucent grand feu enamel in a soft shade of green that matches the water.

ART STORY

AN HOMAGE TO CLAUDE MONET’S VENICE

Painted late in his career, Monet’s ‘Venice’ Series paintings exquisitely render the architecture and exceptional light of Venice that immediately captivated the artist when he and his wife arrived in La Serenissima in autumn 1908. It was a prolific period where Monet painted 37 images, in 10 weeks.

THE GRAND CANAL, VENICE

With a remarkable sense of depth and movement, this spellbinding view across the Grand Canal was painted in the afternoon. The church of Santa Maria della Salute appears to be floating on the water, its architectural details sublimated to the effect of the hazy light.

CALIBRE

A RECTANGULAR HEART

The manually wound calibre 822 that drives the Reverso Tribute Enamel Monet watch is the epitome of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s philosophy. Entirely designed, produced and assembled in-house, calibre 822 is an uncommon rectangular movement allowing it to fit in the Reverso watch case.

HERITAGE

THE BIRTH OF AN ICON

In 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre launched a timepiece that was destined to become a classic of 20th-century design: the Reverso. As an object that so deftly synthesised form and function, it has become one of the most recognisable watches of all time, looking as fresh and modern today as when it first appeared.

While its blank metal flip side had begun as a purely functional solution to avoid damage to the dial, it was an ideal surface for personalisation with monograms, emblems or personal messages using lacquer, engraving, enamel or gemstones.

COLLECTION

Being the perfect canvas for artistic expression, personalisation has been at the core of Reverso watch since its creation. With 180 skills under one roof, the Atelier de Metiers Rares of Jaeger-LeCoultre is the perfect place to bring personalisation to life.
