Perpetual calendar and annual calendar watches: a Jaeger-LeCoultre signature
Perpetual calendar and annual calendar watches are among the most popular complication watches for women. A true technical feat, they display not only the time, but also the date, the day of the week, the month and, in some cases, the year. Thanks to a sophisticated mechanism that requires meticulous craftsmanship and months of fine-tuning, they take calendar variations into account, including leap years. This means they require very few manual corrections: one adjustment per year for annual calendar watches and no adjustments for decades for perpetual calendar watches - with the exception of the years 2100, 2200 and 2300, which are exceptional non-leap years.
The art of the tourbillon
For a long time, mechanical watches were prone to irregularities in their operation, particularly when they remained in a fixed position. The influence of gravity actually interfered with the movement of the balance and escapement. It was not until the 18th century that this problem was resolved with the invention of the tourbillon.
