Diamond tourbillon watches

How a diamond tourbillon watch works

When a mechanical watch remains in a fixed position, whether flat or upright, its operation is eventually disrupted by an unavoidable phenomenon: gravity. This affects the movement’s sensitive components, such as the regulating organ (comprising the balance wheel and the balance spring) and the escapement, leading to a lack of precision.

Invented in the 19th century, the tourbillon revolutionised fine watchmaking by introducing an innovative mechanism able to counterbalance the effects of gravity. The regulating organ and escapement of a tourbillon timepiece are housed in a rotating cage, thus neutralising this influence. Defying the laws of nature, the balance wheel swings and is no longer static.

Initially reserved for pocket watches, the tourbillon was gradually introduced for wristwatches, becoming the symbol of Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship. Guaranteeing the precision of a mechanical timepiece, this device fascinates as much for its aesthetic elegance as for its technical complexity.

Diamonds to enhance the most beautiful watchmaking complication

The tourbillon, already a mechanical masterpiece, takes a new turn when adorned with diamonds. Each stone, set with pinpoint precision, captures the light, illuminating the movement of the balance wheel and the rotation of the cage. This interaction between the brilliance of the diamonds and the fluidity of the mechanical movement creates a fascinating visual spectacle. The Rendez-Vous Jewellery Tourbillon diamond tourbillon watch is a perfect example. Much more than a simple watch, it is a veritable jewel of fine watchmaking, combining aesthetics and performance.
