Master Compressor Extreme LAB
Operating without oil or grease, its Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 988C is capable of running for years without any wear or deterioration of its performances. A new structural arrangement of the balance and oscillating weight, together with the introduction of new lighter and sturdier materials in the escapement and a state-of-the-art tourbillon regulator enable it to set new standards in terms of precision. Six patents have been registered to protect the unique high-tech exterior and movement of this revolutionary watch that also features a fascinating set of complications: a tourbillon with an ultra-light magnesium alloy carriage, two time zones, a central pointer-type date display which jumps over the tourbillon carriage, and an AM/PM indication.

First lubricant-free movementThe lever pallets are made from monocrystalline black diamond and the escape-wheel from silicon. Easium™ carbon-nitride is used here for the first time, in order to eliminate any need for lubricating the escapement parts and to avoid wear of the shock-absorbers. The barrel grease is replaced by a graphite powder-based mixture that is stable at even extreme temperatures. |
New generations of balance and oscillating weightThe oscillating weight is composed of a carbon fibre base and a platinum/iridium alloy that is also used in the new two-arm balance. These new structural arrangements, coupled with the use of this extremely dense material, minimises the surface in friction and thus improves the performances of its key components. |
A high-tech caseA new case protected by three patents: one for the unusual carbon fibre construction fitted inside a grade 5 titanium ring and topped by a silicon carbonitride bezel; a second for the suspension-mounted movement with a polyurethane shock-absorbing system; and the third for the a four-notch wristband adjustment system. |
