CRAFTSMANSHIP
PRECISION AND ARTISTRY IN MINIATURE
With the Reverso Tribute Enamel “Venice” watch Series, La Grande Maison showcases the talents and skills of the Manufacture’s in-house Métiers Rares™ Atelier - bringing together the crafts of miniature painting, enamelling and guillochage. The master artisans are bringing their unique talent to light through the Maison’s artistic creations.
AN IMPRESSIONIST MASTERPIECE ON 2 CM2
The first of many challenges in decorating the Reverso watch case-back was to reproduce Claude Monet’s original works onto a surface of 2 cm2. The enameller also had to create an illusion of the impasto and recreate the dreamlike quality of the originals, with their fleeting effects of light and atmosphere.
17 HOURS FOR THE GUILLOCHÉ ENAMELLED DIAL
The three dials are decorated with hand-guilloché distinctive patterns, needing 8 hours of work, beneath translucent coloured enamel. They are an eloquent artistic response to the miniature paintings on the case-backs. The enamelling alone requires nine hours of work for each dial, with up to five layers of enamel and seven separate firings at up to 800°C.
ART STORY
AN HOMAGE TO CLAUDE MONET’S VENICE
Painted late in his career, Monet’s ‘Venice’ Series paintings exquisitely render the architecture and exceptional light of Venice that immediately captivated the artist when he and his wife arrived in La Serenissima in autumn 1908. It was a prolific period where Monet painted 37 images, in 10 weeks.
HERITAGE
THE BIRTH OF AN ICON
In 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre launched a timepiece that was destined to become a classic of 20th-century design: the Reverso. As an object that so deftly synthesised form and function, it has become one of the most recognisable watches of all time, looking as fresh and modern today as when it first appeared.
While its blank metal flip side had begun as a purely functional solution to avoid damage to the dial, it was an ideal surface for personalisation with monograms, emblems or personal messages using lacquer, engraving, enamel or gemstones.
COLLECTION
Being the perfect canvas for artistic expression, personalisation has been at the core of Reverso watch since its creation. With 180 skills under one roof, the Atelier de Metiers Rares of Jaeger-LeCoultre is the perfect place to bring personalisation to life.
