OVERVIEW

BEYOND PRECISION, THE BEAUTY OF MECHANICS

FUNCTIONS

THE PURSUIT OF PRECISION

Beyond the tourbillon completing its revolution every 60 seconds, Calibre 978 features both a jumping date mechanism and 24-hour disc. All three main functions are displayed and perfectly legible thanks to the restructured apertures of the dial and movement architecture.

64-COMPONENT TOURBILLON

Weighing less than 0.5 grams and featured at 6 o’clock, the tourbillon is aesthetically pleasing but also adds complexity to the timepiece with two main functions: counteracting gravity and indicating the seconds through its 60-second revolution.

SIGNATURE JUMPING DATE COMPLICATION

The distinctive date driver sector, a unique component visible at 9 o’clock on the date driver train, is a part of the jumping date mechanism. This mechanism ensures the tourbillon remains unobstructed from view, as starting at midnight on the 15th of each month, the hand leaps to the 16th across the tourbillon aperture.

VERSATILE 24-HOUR DISC

This 24-hour disc indicates day and night (AM/PM) when synchronised with the primary time display but can also ingeniously serve as a second time zone indicator as it is easily set independently from the main hour and minute hands using the crown.

DESIGN

REFINED WINDOW INTO PRECISION

The open-worked dial has been designed to showcase the major elements of the calibre, namely the jumping date mechanism as well as the tourbillon and 24-hour disc, both held by 18K White Gold (750/1000) rounded-off bridges.

DEMONSTRATIVE AESTHETIC

The richly decorated 18K Pink Gold (750/1000) dial features a barleycorn pattern beneath deep blue translucent enamel, contrasting with 18K Pink Gold (750/1000) applied hour markers. A pointer with a red JL anchor indicates the date on the peripheral calendar display, and a red arrow allows for reading of the 24-hour disc.

SOPHISTICATED 60-COMPONENT CASE

The 18K Pink Gold (750/1000) case follows the Grande Tradition design codes, with multiple high-polished, brushed and micro-blasted finishes creating a captivating play of light over its 60 components.

CALIBRE

A PRIZED TOURBILLON CALIBRE

Entirely conceived, designed and produced in-house, Calibre 978 won in 2009 the first modern chronometry competition and is one of the Maison’s most notable tourbillon calibres. Comprised of 305 components, the automatic winding movement it offers a 45-hour power reserve with refined finishes visible thanks to the transparent sapphire case back.

10 DISTINCT DECORATIONS INVOLVING 8 WORKSHOPS

The calibre boasts exquisite high watchmaking decorations. All the 305 components are meticulously decorated, showcasing 10 distinct decorative techniques across the calibre, and including 61 hand-beveled angles. These decorations involve 8 different workshops at the Manufacture.

HAND-POLISHED ROUNDED-OFF BRIDGES

The two 18K White Gold (750/1000) upper bridges of the tourbillon and the 24-hour disc have been intricately polished to create a perfectly rounded half-moon profile using a High Watchmaking technique called berçage (rounding off), necessitating the precise and skilful use of a burnishing file, and requiring manual finishing to reach every angle.
